My Birthday Note to Every Mom: Motherhood Changed Me, But It Didn’t End Me

Motherhood has changed me in ways I never imagined.

Sometimes, in the quiet moments, I look around at my life and feel so much gratitude. I look at my children, my family, everything I have become, and I think, Wow. This is my life. And I love it.

Motherhood has given me so much. But if I’m being completely honest, sometimes I miss the woman I was before I became a mother.

But sometimes, I also look back at the woman I was before motherhood and wonder about all the things I still want to do for myself.

There are places I want to go. Things I want to try. Dreams I still carry. There are days when I just want to get dressed, step out, and be a woman without having to think about who needs me, who is hungry, who needs attention, or what needs to be done at home.

And then there are the insecurities.

Your body changes. Your priorities change. Your time is no longer completely yours. Sometimes you look in the mirror and wonder where parts of the old you went.

But motherhood is beautiful.

It really is.

And I’ve also learned that support makes such a difference. Sometimes I think about mothers who are doing this without much help at all, and I honestly wonder how they cope. Because even with the little support we may have, motherhood can still feel hard.

There is so much I still want for myself. So much I still want to accomplish.

And if there is one thing I want every mother reading this to hear, it is this:

Keep your dream alive.

Even if it is small.

Even if you have to pause.

Even if you can only take tiny steps right now.

Keep it alive.

Motherhood does not have to become the end of your identity. You are still a woman. You still deserve to look good, feel good, dream, laugh, make friends, build things, go out, rest, and have a life outside of being someone’s mother.

Life is for the living, mamas.

Prioritize yourself too.

Create systems that make your life easier. Ask for help. Accept help. Build friendships. Find your people. Join communities at church, online, in your neighbourhood, wherever you can find women who understand.

Because friends can be lifelines.

Motherhood should not feel lonely.

And building MomCircleNG has changed the way I see motherhood. It has opened my eyes to just how many women are navigating this same complicated mixture of love, exhaustion, joy, guilt, ambition, insecurity, and hope.

Motherhood can feel lonely and not lonely at the same time.

It’s a strange mixture of everything.

And I’ve realized something else: if you keep waiting for motherhood to “get better,” you may miss the life you’re living right now.

Because the seasons keep changing.

The tiny babies become toddlers. The toddlers grow. The things that overwhelm you today will eventually become memories you look back on.

So make use of what you have now.

Love your children deeply.

But don’t forget to love yourself too.

Don’t let this journey hold you down. Let it shape you, stretch you, and grow you—but keep becoming the woman you want to be.

On my birthday, this is my little reminder to every mother out there:

You are doing better than you think.

You are allowed to want more.

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to ask for help.

You are allowed to have dreams outside motherhood.

And whatever you do, mama

keep your dream alive.

I’m rooting for you. Always. ❤️

All my love

Princess
